Our Story

Wippel Family Berks is a family-owned and operated swine and grain farm located in Orient, OH (south-central Ohio).

The boss and "dad", Jeff, was involved in his great uncle's farm where his interest in pigs began. His passion for pigs grew, even earning him Grand Champion Market Hog at the Pickaway County Fair in his first year of 4-H. From what I can remember we’ve had just about every breed of pigs on the farm, however, the number of Berkshires kept growing.

In 1990 he married his wife Sherrie and together they have four daughters: Makenzie (Ryan), Macie, Mallorie (Levi), and Markie (Neal). They have all been involved in the industry.

At every show that we’ve been to since I can remember, we’ve had Berkshires in the ring. Like most businesses, diversification is important to sustainability. Our main focus today is providing Berkshire pork to restaurants, chefs, grocery stores, farmer’s markets, as well as at the farm. The meat quality is second to none for marbling, tenderness, and flavor.

Today we’re blessed to offer the best of both worlds of Berkshires, show pigs for youth projects, market pigs for producers to start or grow, and a wholesome protein for family tables. While Berkshire pigs and pork are our specialties, it’s the people along the way that keep us preaching that Berkshire is better.

Jeff has been President of the Ohio Berkshire Association for over 10 years. In 2015 he was elected to serve on the American Berkshire Association Board of Directors. That same year he was inducted into the Ohio State Fair Swine Hall of Fame.
